ASPVA presents
The Austin Brass Center
2010 Summer Institute
The Austin School for the Performing and Visual Arts in
collaboration with the Austin Brass Center presents the
2010 Summer Institute. This seminar will be conducted
from July 12-16, 2010 on the campus of Westlake High School in Austin, TX. The Summer
Brass Institute is an intensive, five-day seminar dedicated to developing students’ brass
playing techniques and brass ensemble playing.
Students will have an opportunity to study brass playing techniques, learn brass literature
and improve their playing abilities under the tutelage of professional educators, musicians,
and high-profile guest artists. The staff has extensive experience in brass teaching and has
worked with some of the best brass teachers and players in the world.
Unlike summer band camps, the Summer Brass Institute will also offer an opportunity for
students to perform chamber music. Playing in small ensembles will help enhance the
student’s skills in the areas of intonation, dynamic control, rhythmic accuracy, and stylistic
playing. We will be featuring group warm-ups, full brass and individual instrument master-
classes, and large and small group ensemble playing each day.
The Austin School for the Performing and Visual Arts (ASPVA) admits students of any race,
color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally
accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of
race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions
policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
