The Austin School for the Performing and Visual Arts is pleased to announce that high school senior, Kele Roberson, has been named a Presidential Scholar Candidate by the U.S. Department of Education. Roberson has had an outstanding school year, beginning with a scholarship award to attend ASPVA through the sponsorship of American Campus Communities, Inc. Roberson is also a member of the Dance Institute dance company, and was named the New York City Dance Alliance “Teen Outstanding Dancer” in July 2016 winning over $200,000 in college scholarship awards. In November, he applied to the YoungArts Foundation in what was the largest pool of applicants received to date. 691 of the nation’s most promising young artists representing 40 states were selected. Roberson was one of 166 winners which is the National YoungArts Foundation’s highest honor. It was this foundation that nominated Roberson for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors.
