The Austin School for the Performing and Visual Arts is pleased to announce that high school senior, Kele Roberson, has been named a Presidential Scholar Candidate by the U.S. Department of Education. Roberson has had an outstanding school year, beginning with a scholarship award to attend ASPVA through the sponsorship of American Campus Communities, Inc. Roberson is also a member of the Dance Institute dance company, and was named the New York City Dance Alliance “Teen Outstanding Dancer” in July 2016 winning over $200,000 in college scholarship awards. In November, he applied to the YoungArts Foundation in what was the largest pool of applicants received to date. Β 691 of the nation’s most promising young artists representing 40 states were selected. Β Roberson was one of 166 winners which is the National YoungArts Foundation’s highest honor. Β It was this foundation that nominated Roberson for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Β The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors.
